In 1762 Samuel Pleasants relocated from Henrico County, Virginia, to Pennsylvania. He became established in the mercantile industry giving the Pleasants family a prominent position in society. Dr. Henry Pleasants, Jr. (1884-1963), a descendant of Samuel, pursued a medical degree and was an officer in the United States military while maintaining an interest in writing. Authoring several history books relating to Pennsylvania and the American Revolution, Dr. Pleasants collected letters, receipts and other business documents over the years presumably to aid in his research.
