The secretary of the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for recording the minutes of the meetings of both the General Faculty and the Faculty Council. In addition, the secretary generates correspondence relating to elections and to the actions of the two faculty bodies, maintains files of all nominations for special awards and honorary degrees, and serves as an ex-officio member on various committees. The office of secretary of the faculty dates to the university's founding; until 1886, the secretary was also responsible for keeping student records.
