Walter Inkster, son of James Inkster, shipmaster, was born in Aberdeen on 7 Feb 1890. He graduated from the University of Aberdeen, MA 1911 and BSc (Agriculture) 1912, after which he went to work for the Potash Syndicate in Berlin, then in 1913 to Sydney, New South Wales. By March 1915 he had returned to Scotland and enlisted as a private in the 4th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, quickly rising to 2nd lieutenant. He died of wounds received in Flanders, c 25 Sept 1915.
