Edward Sangiacomo (circa 1915-1998) was born Elsio Bolino San Giacomo in 1915. He attended the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1944) around 1948 where he was a student in the Department of Applied Arts. After graduating, it appears as though Sangiacomo several graphic design projects for Rochester-area companies such as BernzOmatic and may have worked for Stecher-Traung-Schmidt Lithographic Company designing labels .Eventually, Sangiacomo relocated to Washington, DC where he used the name Ellis St. James. According to Sangiacomo, he chose to use the anglicanized version of his name to fit in in with the advertising world. He worked for several years as a successful advertising executive before moving to Gloucester, MA. Here he joined the Rocky Neck Art Colony as a painter. While in Gloucester, he created mostly portrait paintings for wealthy families in the area. During the 1980s, Sangiacomo left the colony to travel around the country painting. He died in 1998.
