John R. Crawford served as a Presbyterian missionary in Congo, 1960-1969.

The Presbyterian Church in the U.S. (PCUS) Board of World Missions appointed Crawford and his wife, Sylvia Jean Crawford, to serve in Luluabourg where Crawford taught in a number of theological seminaries and secondary schools. From 1958 to 1960, Crawford taught at Austin College in Sherman, Tex., and after returning to the United States from Congo, he was a professor at Limestone College, Gaffney, S.C., 1969-1970, and Montreat College, Montreat, N.C., 1970-1997. He also served as interim pastor of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church (Brevard, N.C.) from 1976 to 1977.
