The Governor appointed a Task Force of Utility Regulatory Reform (Sept. 1982 - Jan. 1984), composed of eighteen members representing government, higher education, utilities, labor, public interest groups, and business, to recommend Illinois electric and natural gas utility regulation procedures. Since the Regulatory Agency Sunset of 1979 called for a timely review of these industries' regulation, the task force was created to accelerate the review process. Its five investigative areas included state regulatory structures and jurisdictions; utility planning and construction supervision; rate and service regulation; low income assistance; and regulatory process checks. After making its final report recommending Public Utilities Act revisions to the Governor (January 1984), the task force passed from existence.
