Embree, Joseph.

Joseph Embree operated a cotton plantation near Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi, during the 1840s and 1850s. He conducted business with several New Orleans cotton brokers including Nalle, Cox & Co.; Edward Nalle & Co.; Hawkins & Norwood; and Flower & Maes. Embree was married to Jamesy Rawlins, and they had at least one child, Lizzie, who wed Ira B. Wall. Embree and his family moved to Clinton, East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, in 1859. Embree served in Company A, 1st Louisiana Reserves, Confederate Army. He was taken prisoner and paroled in 1865, after which time he resumed planting. Embree died in the early 1870s.
