Developed out of a social work program initiated in 1908 by Connecticut Society for Mental Hygiene, a group founded by Clifford W. Beers, mental health crusader. Clifford Beers Clinic founded in 1913 and reorganized in 1952 under the name: Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic; first outpatient mental health clinic in the U.S. A community psychiatric service but chiefly provides services for children and their families.
