Clarrisa Baxter Shattuck and Rebecca Shattuck were daughters of Lemuel Shattuck (1793-1859). Lemuel Shattuck was a statistician and genealogist, member of Massachusetts legislature, publisher and bookseller in Boston (1836-39), founder of the American Statistical Association, New England Historic Genealogical Society; other endeavors resulted in the creation of the Massachusetts Board of Health, an important development in the field of public health in the United States
