Donald A. Gaylord (b. 1920, Chicago, Ill.-d. Oct. 12, 1998), U.S. Air Force officer, began his military career in 1942 as an aviation cadet and earned his pilot wings a year later. During World War II, he joined the 351st Bombardment Group, Eighth Air Force, flying B-17s. After the War he had a number of assignments in recruiting duty as a student and teacher. In 1954 he became commander, 321st Air Refueling Squadron of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), then director of materiel for the 4083rd Strategic Wing and the Eighth Air Force. After serving as deputy director logistics, U.S. European Command in Germany, he assumed duty as commander, Pacific Exchange System in Hawaii, in 1972. General Gaylord retired in March 1975.
