Salisbury, Thomas, 1823-1884

Thomas Salisbury was born in St. Michaels, Lancashire County, England on 10 January 1823. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April of 1842 by John Rawstorne and was married to Eliza Knowles (1818-1863) on 27 August 1849 by W. Walters, resident minister of the Baptist Chapel in Preston, England. They sailed to New Orleans on the ship Ellen Maria, leaving on 29 January 1851 and traveled up the Mississippi River aboard the Alex Scott Steamer, arriving in St. Louis on 16 April 1851. Salisbury was made bishop of the St. Louis 1st and 2nd Wards in May of 1856. After the death of his wife on 31 July 1863 he married Ellen Knowles (1821-1905) on 25 January 1864. He died in Ogden, Utah on 11 July 1884.
