Grand Army of the Republic. Edgar M. Wing Post No. 147 (Glens Falls, N.Y.)
The Edgar M. Wing Post No. 147 of the Grand Army of the Republic was organized in 1878 and received its charter in 1880. Its members were veterans of the Union armed forces in the Civil War, and the purpose of the Post was to strengthen the bonds of friendship these Union veterans formed during the War. The Post was named after Edgar M. Wing, who was wounded at the battle of Drewry's Bluff and died as a prisoner in Richmond, Virginia in 1864.
