Claude Houghton Oldfield

Claude Houghton (Oldfield) (1889-1961), author, was born at Sevenoaks, Kent, and educated at Dulwich College, London. His works include the novels Neighbours (1926), I am Jonathan Scrivener (1930) and Julian Grant loses his way (1933), and the short story collection Three fantastic tales (1934). He also wrote poetry, including The phantom host (1917) and The tavern of dreams (1919); the plays Judas (1922) and In the house of the high priest (1923); and a volume of essays, The kingdoms of the spirit (1924). Houghton was a member of the Savage Club. He died on 10 February 1961.
