Marion Shackson was born in Onaway (Mich.) in 1905. Except for a few years spent in Cleveland (Ohio), Marion grew up in Onaway and graduated from high school there in 1923. From 1927 to 1929 Marion attended CMU to earn a teaching degree. In 1928, while attending college, Marion and her sister were hired to teach school in Holland, (Mich.), by the innovative superintendent of schools, Mr. E. E. Fell. Marion taught 5th grade in Holland for 43 years and before that taught for two years in country (rural) schools. According to Ancestry.com (viewed July 2009) Marion Shackson died on October 7, 2001 in Holland (Mich.).
