Sir Frederick Shedden, K.C.M.G., O.B.E., was Secretary of the Department of Defence from 1937 to 1956. Other positions he held included Chairman of the War Cabinet, 1939-1946. He accompanied the Prime Minister overseas for defence discussions in 1941, 1944, 1946, 1951 and 1955, and visited the U.S., Canada and the U.K. for defence discussions in 1949.
