Thomas Cobb and Margaret Benning had three sons: Thomas Theordore, Augustus Harrison, and Henry. They also had a daughter, Rowena, who married Mr. Walter L. Lawrence. Theodore and Augustus, or Gus as he was known, joined the American Merchant Marine. They both rose to the rank of Captain on ships in the Orient particularly out of Hong Kong. Later Gus or A.H. and his brother Theodore had business interest in Hong Kong. Meanwhile Henry went into business in New York City and married Ella M. Van Nuise in 1888. Henry and his wife were very interested in music. In 1887 Theodore died. Gus settled his business in Hong Kong and returned to the United States. In 1888 he married his cousin Margaret Rowena Russell of Atlanta. The A.H. Bennings had several children: A.H., Jr., Elizabeth L., Theodore R., Thomas Cobb, and Broughton W. After Captain A.H. Benning moved to Atlanta he joined the firm of Moss and Morson, who were coal merchants. Benning became first a partner and eventually sole owner when he changed the name to the Benning Coal & Wood Co. He was also involved in the English-American Building. After Captain A.H. Benning died in 1904, Mrs. Margaret Benning owned many rental properties in Atlanta. Broughton W. Benning was a radio operator and involved with various amateur radio groups. He married Kathleen Petty.
