Memphis and Charleston Railroad Company
Variant namesIncorporated in Tennessee in 1846 to connect Memphis, Tenn., and Charleston, S.C., by rail; main line completed in 1858 from Memphis to Stevenson, Ala. (272 miles); leased by East Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia Railroad Company, 1877-1892; sold to Southern Railway Company and reorganized as Memphis and Charleston Railway Company in 1898.
