Ankeny, Henry Giesey, 1827-1906
Variant namesHenry Ankeny was an Adams County, Iowa resident who served with Company H of the 4th Iowa Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was mustered in as a 1st Lieutenant in August 1861 and promoted to Captain in October 1862 after the Battle of Pea Ridge. His regiment also saw action at Helena, Arkansas, Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Tennessee and Atlanta. He was married to Horatia Fostina Ankeny.

Henry G. Ankeny was a farmer of Adams County, Iowa and the clerk of the county court. In 1859 he married to Horatia Faustina Newcomb. At the beginning of the Civil War, he joined the 4th Regiment of Iowa Infantry and was elected 1st Lieutenant of Co. H. He fought in Missouri, Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Georgia, taking part in the battle of Pea Ridge, Vicksburg, Chattanooga, and Atlanta campaigns. After the Battle of Pea Ridge Ankeny was promoted to the rank of Captain. Ankeny was mustered out in October 1864.
