Sophia Gardner (Williams) Grosvenor Gray (1855-1938) was the daughter of linguist, missionary, and Sinologist Samuel Wells Willams (1812-1884) and his wife, Sarah Walworth Williams. She was married twice; first to Thomas George Grosvenor, C.B., second son of Baron Lord Ebury of England in 1877. He was appointed secretary to the British legation at Peking in 1879 and died in 1886. Her second marriage was to Sir Albert Gray. He was in the Civil Service in Ceylon (1871-1875), and was Counsel of the Chairman of Committees at the House of Lords (1896-1922).
