Darby Monthly Meeting was established in 1684 by Chester [Concord] Quarterly Meeting out of Chester Monthly Meeting. In 1827, after the Hicksite Separation in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. Darby Monthly Meeting (Orthodox) removed to Lansdowne in 1831. It was discontinued in 1849 and its members were transferred to Chester Monthly Meeting (Orthodox). Darby Monthly Meeting (Hicksite), which reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1955, was the forerunner of the present-day Darby Monthly Meeting of Friends.
