Sir Henry Gullett worked as an official correspondent during World War I, subsequently was Director of the Australian Immigration Bureau and in 1925 was elected as the Federal Member for Henty. He was appointed Minister for Trade and Customs in 1928 and was knighted in 1933 for his work as Australia's representative at the 1932 Imperial Economic Conference at Ottawa. Gullett was Minister for External Affairs in the 1939 Menzies government, and died the following year in an air disaster near Canberra.
