Kenyon E. Poole was born on February 23, 1909, in Rockland, Massachusetts. Poole was on the economics faculty at Harvard and Brown, as well as in the U.S. Naval Reserve before joined the faculty of Northwestern University in 1948. Poole's special interests were taxation, the business cycle and its controls, and the Common Market. His major publications were German Financial Problems, 1932-1939 (1939) and Public Finance and Economic Welfare (1956).

He obtained his B.A. from Harvard (1929), M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (1934), and his Ph.D. from Harvard (1938). He taught at Harvard (1936-1939) as an instructor in economics and at Brown (1939-1942) as an assistant professor. In that year Poole entered the U.S. Naval Reserve; he was discharged as a lieutenant senior grade in 1946. Poole then returned to Brown (1946-1948) as an associate professor.

In the fall of 1948 Poole joined the Northwestern University faculty as a professor of economics, remaining in that position until his retirement in 1977 when he became emeritus.

He married Katherine Noland on August 31, 1940. The couple had no children. Poole died on May 30, 1988.
