Social Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of Mobile is a social justice organization. These records were collected by James U. Blacksher while he was a member of the organization. The Social Justice Commission of the Archdiocese of Mobile developed out of the social justice reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1960-1963). The organization of Mobile was first part of the Diocese of Mobile until Mobile became an Archdiocese in 1980. The local organization is part of the national Social Justice Commission and consists of Roman Catholic clergy and laity. The commission also works alongside other Christian denominations as well as the Jewish community.
