After graduation from Wellman (Iowa) High School, Martha Eimen attended Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City, Iowa, and Goshen College, Indiana, graduating from the latter school in 1944 with a degree in nursing. She then served with the United States Public Health Service and the United Nations from 1944 to 1948, chiefly in Italy and the Middle East. A resident thereafter of Iowa City, Iowa, Eimen received a master's degree in public health nursing in 1958 from the University of Iowa in 1958 and subsequently served in nursing administration at the University of Iowa and its Student Health Service and at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa, until her retirement in 1970.
