Stuart Eldred Abbott was born in Iowa in 1925 and grew up in Chicago, Ill. His parents were Charles S. and Lurline Eldred Abbott. In July 1943, he received his basic training at Fort Custer, Mich. before joining the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colo. Abbott was assigned to the 86th Infantry Regiment, Company L and also served at Camp Swift, Tex. and in Italy. During the 10th Mountain Divisionʹs first major offensive in World War II, Abbott was killed in action on February, 1945 near Mount Gorgolesco. He is buried in the American Cemetary in Florence, Italy.
