Wright Water Engineers
Variant namesWright Water Engineers, a Colorado-based firm with offices in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Durango, was founded in 1961. In 1964, Wright-McLaughlin Engineers was formed to complement Wright Water Engineers with Kenneth R. Wright as one of the founders. Wright-McLaughlin Engineers dissolved in 1982. As a water engineering firm, Wright Water Engineers' work includes agricultural and irrigation engineering, water rights, flood control and drainage issues, hydrology, dams, and groundwater studies and has undertaken many projects in Colorado, but has served as consultant on projects in other states and countries as well. Two Colorado projects are documented in this collection. The company was contracted by Great Western Sugar Company in the 1970s and 1980s to work on the company's water augmentation plans and related water supply and water rights issues. In addition, Kenneth R. Wright was appointed special consultant to Governor Lamm on August 5, 1976, to assist with the aftermath and recovery following the Big Thompson flood disaster of July 31, 1976, and he played a key role in the response to, analysis of and recovery from the flood.
