The Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity (OEOD) at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) "works to promote and integrate the principles of equal opportunity, affirmative action, nondiscrimination, and excellence through diversity at UCI." It is responsible for clarifying federal and state regulations and university policies regarding affirmative action, discrimination, and harassment; ensuring university departments' compliance with these regulations and policies; and resolving complaints of violations of these regulations. To this end, it conducts analyses, workshops, and training programs on cultural awareness, sexual harassment, and related topics for students, faculty, and staff. OEOD also sponsors the annual Religious Diversity Forum at UCI and partners with various community organizations in developing workshops. The OEOD evolved out of the Affirmative Action Office at UCI, which was established circa 1977 . Although the function of the office remained constant, the name of the office has changed over the years. It was called the Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity Office from the mid 1980s to mid 1990s and became the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity circa 1996.
