Jackie Hickam was born in 1903. She graduated from the Holston Institute in 1923. She attended Hiawassee College in Madisonville, TN, then Emory & Henry College, graduating in 1927 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She became a schoolteacher, teaching in Greendale and Saltville, Virginia. After marrying William Cecil Pectol in 1929, she began to teach Sunday school at the Broad Street Methodist Church in Kingsport, Tennessee. After her husband's death, Pectol accepted a job as the Director of Children's Work at Church Street Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. She stayed there fifteen years, before becoming the Director of Children's Work at the First Methodist Church of Birmingham, Alabama. In 1968 Pectol retired and moved back to Kingsport, Tennessee, where she rejoined the Broad Street Methodist Church, and stayed active as a volunteer. She died in 1999 at the age of 95.
