Alfred Whittaker graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1918 and served residencies in New York City. For most of his career he practiced as a surgeon at the Children's Hospital of Michigan and Detroit Memorial Hospital. With Henry B. Selleck, he co- authored Occupational health in America (1962) for the Industrial Medical Association's History Committee.
