Nita Katharine Pyburn was born in Louisiana in 1895. She received a B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1922, and a M.A. from George Peabody College in 1925 for Teachers, and a Ph. D. from University of North Carolina in 1938. She taught English and history in Louisiana schools for ten years before she was appointed Professor of Education at Florida State College for Women in 1927. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. Pyburn died in 1960 after a long illness.
