James H. Sharp founded a subscription school in Moorhead in 1872; it existed two months. Later that year School District No. 2, a permanent five-month school district, was started. Members of the first school board were James Douglas, president; Andrew Holes, treasurer; and James H. Sharp, clerk. Around 1879, it became Independent School District No. 122. In 1955, it merged with other districts in the area, and in 1957, became Independent School District No. 152.
