Resident of Litchfield, Conn.; attended Fort Edward Institute, Fort Edward, N.Y.; in Sept. 1861 enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving with Company E, 8th Connecticut Volunteers; died from edema aboard the steamer Suwanee on Jan. 30, 1862. He was the son of Ethan O. Barber and Francis Gray Barber of Litchfield.
