Piedmont Railroad Company
Variant namesIncorporated in North Carolina in 1862 to connect the Richmond and Danville Railroad with North Carolina Railroad; financed by the Confederate government; line opened 1864 from Danville, Va., to Greensboro, N.C. (48 miles); operated by the U.S. government in 1865; part of Richmond and Danville system (1866-1894); acquired by Southern Railway Company in 1894.
