Following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Elizabeth Morrison left Louisiana with her husband, who was then on the faculty of Louisiana State University, to go to Washington, D.C., to help with the war effort. She joined the typing pool in the Land Lease Administration, headed by Edward R. Stettinius. When Stettinius became secretary of state, she continued to work for him and was part of the staff of the U.S. delegation to the April 1945 conference convened in San Francisco to lay out the basis for the United Nations.
