George Langton ( 1647-1727 ) was a farmer in Lincolnshire with land holdings in excess of 2000 acres at one time. The family owned the parish and village of Langton for some 700 years. He became involved in the National Land Bank in 1694 . Langton was also a businessman; he owned a house in Soho Square, London and had interests in Wey Navigation. He was preoccupied with all aspects of money lending, borrowing and spending - and this often left him close to bancruptcy.
