The Anvil Bookshop, was established in Brisbane in 1935. It later was renamed "The People's Bookshop". Humphrey McQueen has noted: "At the People's Bookshop in Brunswick Street, Valley, Bill Sutton did everything he could to broaden the stock with poetry, music and the visual arts, as well as the widest range of works from allied publishers in the US and Britain."
