The Graduate School of Applied Science was established in 1906, to replace the Lawrence Scientific School. It was under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and offered engineering, architecture, forestry, physics, chemistry, zoology and geology courses. The Graduate Schools of Applied Science, a faculty separate from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, superseded the Graduate School of Applied Science in 1912.
