White, Stephen Mallory, 1873-1946.

Stephen Mallory White, San Francisco-born lawyer who practiced in Los Angeles, where he also became prominent in Democratic party politics. He was elected to the U.S. Senate (1893-99), where he championed the creation of a harbor for Los Angeles at San Pedro. Although we was the state's 21st U.S. Senator, he was the first to be born in California. (Hart, Companion to California, pg. 478.).
