Henry Howard Caldwell was born October 3, 1905, Rocklin, California. He received his commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy on June 2, 1927, and advanced to the rank of rear admiral on October 1, 1954. He served as commander of the Alaskan Sea Frontier from April 1960 to May 1962.
