Paul T. Ringenbach was born in New York City and earned undergraduate and Master's degrees in history from Lehigh University and his Ph.D. in history from the University of Connecticut. As an active duty Captain and then Major in the Air Force, he taught history at USAFA from 1964-1966 and 1968-1972. After retiring from the Air Force in 1986 with the rank of Colonel, Ringenbach was employed by United Services Automobile Association (USAA) in San Antonio for over ten years, where he worked closely with General McDermott. He retired from USAA as an Assistant Vice President in 1998 and is currently living in Schertz, Texas. He participates in a wide range of volunteer activities in San Antonio and enjoys travel and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his book on McDermott, Col. Ringenbach is the author of "USAA: A Tradition of Service, 1922-1997" and "Tramps and Reformers, 1873-1916: The Discovery of Unemployment in New York." The Air Force also published his three Project CHECO studies including 'The Battle of An Loc' that was later excerpted in "Vietnam Voices."
