De Seversky, Alexander Procofieff, 1894-

Major Alexander P. de Seversky was born in Russian Georgia, and served as an aviator in the Imperial Russian Navy during the First World War. He came to the United States in 1918 and was a test pilot and consultant in civilian and military aviation. He founded Seversky Aircraft Corporation in 1931, but later lost control of the company, which became Republic Aviation. He was active as an inventor, author, and commentator in the field of aviation throughout his life.
