Barnard College. Academic Commitee of Board of Trustees.
Barnard College was established in 1889 after almost a decade of petitioning the public and Columbia College. The first administrative head of Barnard was Ella Weed. Her title was Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Board of Trustees. Miss Weed was born in Newburgh, N. Y. She graduated from Vassar with honors in 1873. At the time of her association with Barnard, she was serving as principal of Miss Brown's School for Girls. Miss Weed died in 1894. She is remembered at Barnard through the Ella Weed Room in Milbank Hall.
