Weinheber was an Austrian poet, novelist, essayist and landscape artist. Relatively ignored until 1934, his collection of poems ADEL UND UNTERGANG brought him immediate recognition and helped him to achieve his later status as an important poet of the Third Reich. He continued to write until his suicide in 1945. Gustav Karstenhofer was a friend of his, and gave a public lecture on Weinheber on the 50th anniversary commemoration of his death.
