William Williams Colbert (1807-1890) was born in Greene County, Ga., and married Mary Ann Elizabeth Goodson in 1831. They were the parents of Richard Colbert (b. 1835), William Bonaparte Colbert (1840-1890), and Georgia Alabama Colbert (b. 1843). The three children were born in Montgomery County, Ala., and the family settled in Bienville Parish, La., in 1849. Both sons served in the Ninth Louisiana Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. Richard was captured in November 1863, exchanged in March 1864, and lost in action in September 1864. William was captured in July 1864 and released after the war. He married Mary Ellen Wilson and managed the Colbert Hotel in Gibsland, La., between 1866 and 1890. Georgia Alabama Colbert married James Pollard Murphey, a former staff member to General John B. Gordon.
