The Association of Honorary Consultants to the Army Medical Library originated with Army Medical Library director Col. Harold Jones in the early 1940s. He sought the formation of an advisory group similar to one which has served the library earlier in the 1930s. The organization was formed in 1944, with its stated purpose being "the promotion of the welfare of the Army Medical library." It consulted and advised the Library director on matters the director brought to it. Its certificate of incorporation was filed January 27, 1947. The corporation's membership was "limited to individuals duly appointed as Honorary Consultants to the Army Medical Library by the Surgeon General of the United States Army" and included the library's director. The executive committee, consisting of 7 members, ran the Association's affairs. The Association was dissolved in May 1952 when the Library was redesignated the Armed Forces Medical Library.
