George Griffiths was born on December 17, 1917. He was educated at the University of Manchester, Whitworth Street College from 1937-1943. Other educational credits included: London & City Guilds First Class Cotton Weaving Finals; Ordinary National Certificate - Textile Manufacturing; Lancashire & Cheshire Certificate of Textile Manufacturing; I.C.S. Weaving Shed Managers Diploma; and membership with both the Textile Institute and Paper Industry Management Association. From 1933-1945 Griffiths worked at John Nichols Manufacturing Company of Manchester, England; 1945-1947 at Patrons & Baldwin in Yorkshire, England; 1947-1951 at Cosmos Imperial in Ontario, Canada; 1951-1961 at William E. Hooper & Sons in Baltimore, Maryland; and 1961-[?] at Mount Vernon Mills in Baltimore, Maryland.
