Wayburn, Peggy
Peggy Wayburn was born in New York City in 1917. She graduated from Barnard College in 1942. She moved to San Francisco in 1945, where she met and married her husband, Edgar Wayburn. Together, they worked to establish Redwood National Park, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Point Reyes National Seashore, all in Northern California. Her writings about Alaska have been credited with convincing the United States Congress to pass major legislation to protect more than 100 million acres of Alaskan wilderness. Peggy Wayburn died in San Francisco in 2002.
