Daniel J. Ryan (1855-1923) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. After studying law, he was admitted to the bar in February 1877. He served as the first president of the League of Ohio Republican Clubs. From 1889-1891, he served as Ohio's secretary of state. In 1892 he became the chief commissioner for Ohio at the World's Columbian Exposition. Ryan wrote a number of books and monographs, including a history of Ohio. He also served on the board of trustees for the Ohio Historical Society for thirty-four years. He married Myra L. Kerr of Portsmouth, Ohio in 1884 and had five children, three of whom passed away in childhood.
Albert Fauley (1856-1919), born in Fultonham, Ohio, near Zanesville, studied art in Philadelphia, Chicago and Paris. Fauley taught at the Columbus Art School at the beginning of the twentieth century and was influential in the Ohio arts community.
