David Heber Plank was born in Caernarvon Township, Berks County, Pa. on Nov. 12, 1842. He attended local and state schools including Millersville Normal School and Pennsylvania State College. He attended Millersville Normal School from 1860 to 1864 but did not graduate. While at Pennsylvania State College, he selected medicine as his profession and applied to the University of Pennsylvania. He was accepted and graduated on Mar. 14, 1867 with a degree in medicine. Plank began a general practice of medicine in Morgantown, Pa. in 1869. His practice became very successful and he continued to reside in Morgantown until his death.

David Heber Plank was a resident of Morgantown, Berks County, Pa., who attended the Pennsylvania State Normal School in Millersville from approximately 1860 to 1865. In the fall of 1862, Plank enlisted in the 10th Pennsylvania Militia and served for a month during the Civil War. He returned to Millersville, but is not listed as a graduate of the school. He later attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and began a successful medical practice in Berks County.
