Albert R. and Ruby Bass.

Hide Profile

Albert R. and Ruby Bass were residents of Dallas, Texas. In 1932 they adopted their daughter, Carleen (later changed to Jimmie Carolyn), as a small girl from the Berachah Home in Arlington, Texas. The Berachah Home was operated from 1903 through 1935 by the Rev. J. T. Upchurch and his wife, Maggie Mae, as an establishment for homeless, usually pregnant girls. At the Berachah Home, young women were encouraged to keep their babies and were taught skills to aid in their support after leaving the facility. An adoption was a rare occurence.
